Special information
Transfer Students seeking to begin Modern or Ballet training above the entry level:
Transfer students who wish to enroll for Modern or Ballet courses above the "I" level must complete level placement auditions in order to assure proper placement in our sequenced programs. If a transfer student is unable to attend a placement audition in advance of registration, they can work with a dance counselor at registration to determine a preliminary level placement. Having registered according to the preliminary placement, the student must audition during the first week of classes to confirm their placement. Should the audition result in a different level placement, adjustments to the student's schedule must be made during schedule revision week.
Transfer Students seeking the BFA degree in Dance:
Transfer students will meet with a faculty counselor to evaluate any prior dance courses for equivalency with our requirements. No more than 32 credit hours of transferred courses will be allowed to stand in place of our program requirements. Transfer students seeking the BFA degree must be in full-time residence a minimum of four semesters (excluding summers) and complete a minimum of 50 credit hours of required course work, including all required courses beyond the core, within the dance department.
Transfer Students seeking the BA degree in Dance:
Transfer students will meet with a faculty counselor to evaluate any prior dance courses for equivalency with our requirements. NO more than 25 credit hours of transferred courses will be allowed to stand in place of our program requirements. Transfer students seeking the BA degree must be in full-time residence a minimum of three semesters (excluding summers) and must complete: a minimum 10 hours of technical requirement including all proficiencies, at least two of three required courses in the Dance Composition/Improvisation sequence, and no fewer than 25 credits total within the department.
Transfer students seeking a minor in Dance:
Transfer students seeking a minor in Dance must complete all required credits (24) at Columbia College Chicago. Transfer student may petition for departmental acceptance of course substitutions based on prior course work.
How long does it take?
During the regular academic year, faculty will respond within two weeks to the student's request. Faculty will record their evaluation on a Course Equivalency, Substitution, and Waiver Form. A copy of this form will be given to the student, to the Office of Degree Evaluation, and to the College Advising Center.
What will the student receive?
Office of Degree Evaluation evaluators will enter the credit into the student's record and issue a new or revised Transfer Evaluation Report to the student within a week of receipt of the Course Equivalency, Substitution, and Waiver Form from the department.
