Q: How long will you host my WebAgent site and how much will this cost?

A: The Portfolio Center will host your WebAgent site until the end of time. It is free.

Q: If I already have a website that is not part of the Web Agent can I still have an account?
A: Yes, Web Agent is available to all students and alumni.

Q: I already have a website that is not part of the Web Agent and is hosted outside of Columbia. Can I have my website be a part of WebAgent's hosting?
A: No, we currently only host WebAgent sites.  However, we would like you to consider adding your site to our searchable data base of websites. You can submit your site to be included in the database here.

Q: I don’t have Photoshop to resize my images what can I do?

A: If you have a PC or a MAC you can download ‘GIMP’ which is a free Image Manipulation Program.

Q: What is a personalized Domain Name?

A: Let’s say that if you name is Jane Doe. You would want to get janedoe.com

Q: How do I get a personalized Domain Name?
A: You can do a search on the web for “Domain Names” and will find that there are many companies that provide the service of selling and registering Domain Names. At the time of this FAQ the average cost for purchasing a domain name is $10.00 a year.

Q: I found a company that will sell me a personalized Domain Name and they are offering a special that includes web hosting. Do I need hosting for my Web Agent account?
A: No, We are hosting your site through our server.

Q: What is the difference between a Domain Name and Web hosting?
A: A domain name is the web address of the website, for example “www.google.com.” 
Web Hosting is a remote location where your web files are stored.  For example- image, video, and HTML files are stored on a server here at Columbia.
