QR Codes
QR codes (short for Quick Response) what heck are they and why we need them?
These unique looking bar codes are used today as a quick and easy way to promote and market information to the global masses by embedding information into a visual code that can be applied to any visual media (primarily used with print media). Then using a QR reader (a common application made available for mobile devices that uses the camera) to decipher the embedded information. Think of a Secret decoder ring made for the 21st century.
So what can we do with these codes and how do we create these codes?
There are many possibilities that one can apply and utilize a QR code. Here is a short list of ideas to get you started. Think outside the box and be creative.
- A link that launches the mobile device web browser to your website with out having to type the URL.
- A calendar event date and time, that syncs up with the mobile device calendar to promote your performance or event.
- A plain text version of your resume that is viewable on the mobile device.
- Add the QR code to the back of your business card, and or any printed materials, like leave behinds, print books, etc.
To create your QR code or codes, you will need to use a QR generator, which can be found on the Internet. There are both free and paid generators, simply do an Internet search that include the keywords – QR code, generator. The key here is to find a generator that you are comfortable with.
To obtain a QR decoder for your mobile device, do a similar Internet search as you would for the generator, but replace the word generator with the word decoder in your list of keywords.
