Columbia College Chicago is proud to announce our first official celebration of LGBT History during the month of October. The Office of LGBTQ Culture and Community within Multicultural Affairs has planned a series of events including lectures, discussions, documentary screenings, performances and celebrations. Special highlighted events include the Pride Month Kickoff, "Chicago Whispers: A History of LGBT Chicago Before Stonewall," In the Center: An LGBTQ Art Festival and the Rainbow MasQUEERade Jam. Columbia’s Common Ground organization of LGBTQ students and allies will participate throughout the month with their weekly meetings and Ally Week events, which promise to be fun, exciting and informative.

Under the Influence “Show Don’t Tell: Imagery and Form”

This workshop, with New York based, educator and slam poet, T’ai Freedom Ford will show participants how to convey emotions as image via the Japanese forms of haiku and tanka. T’ai is in town performing as part of “The Revival- A Salon Styled Poetry Tour of Queer Women Artists”. Space is limited. RSVP to jconway@colum.edu.

“ Chicago Whispers: A History of LGBT Chicago Before Stonewall”

A History of LGBT Chicago Before Stonewall gives a colorful and vibrant record of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people who lived here from the city’s beginnings in the 1670’s to the end of the 1960’s. Journalist, St. Sukie De LaCroix will join us for an intimate reading of his new text. Q & A will follow.
