Astraea Grants
The Astraea organization administers grants for lesbian artists and writers. These grants include the Lesbian Visual Artist Fund and the Lesbian Writers Fund. Visit website for more details.


Audre Lorde Scholarship Fund
The Audre Lorde Scholarship Awards are designed to recognize *out* lesbians and gay men of color who are making significant contributions to their communities. It is both for undergraduate and graduate students.


The Colin Higgins Courage Award
Awards individuals who are either a) LGBTQ or questioning youth who have "bravely stood up to hostility and intolerance" based on their sexual orientation and triumphed over bigotry; b) LGBTQ adults who have made strong impact in the lives of LGBTQQ youth or the overall LGBTQ movement; or c) allies of any age working to end homophobia and discrimination. Must be nominated for the award.


Family Equality Council & Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE)
Scholarships of up to $1000 for postsecondary (college) students who have LGBT parents and have a demonstrated ability in and commitment to affecting change in society.


LEAGUE Foundation Scholarships
The League scholarships are intended for high school seniors who identify themselves as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender. The scholarships include the Matthew Shepard Scholarship and the Laurel Hester Memorial Scholarship. Visit website for more details.


Messenger-Anderson Journalism Scholarship and Internship Program
The Messenger-Anderson Journalism Scholarship and Internship Program offers several $10,000 scholarships ($5,000 for the first year and $2,500 for the second and third years) to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students pursuing a degree in journalism and communications at an accredited four-year college or university. High school seniors and current undergraduate students are eligible to apply. A GPA of 2.8 or better is required. The award is sponsored by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF). Winners are required to participate in the Messenger-Anderson Scholarship Intern Program at NGLTF offices in Washington, DC, or New York City during the summer. The deadline is in mid-February.


National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association
NLGJA provides several scholarships and awards for LGBT students interested in journalism (both undergrads and grad students). These include the Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship, and the Excellence in Journalism Awards.


National Women's Studies Association Graduate Scholarship Award
The NWSA administers the Lesbian Caucus Award for graduate students working on projects that resonate with the mission of NWSA and the goals of the Lesbian Caucus. Visit website for more details.


PFLAG Scholarships

PFLAG administers several scholarships for GLBT students. Visit the website for details about national and local scholarships.


Point Foundation Scholarships
The Point Foundation administers several scholarships for GLBT students nation-wide. These scholarships range from the Point Scholarship to the MTV-U/Point Scholarship. Visit website for details.


Transgender Scholarship and Education Legacy Fund
TSELF awards several scholarships for transgender-identified students in the helping and caring professions, including social services, health care, religious instruction, teaching, and law. The awards are sponsored by the International Foundation for Gender Education .
