Contract Campaign

Contract Renewal Campaign is an opportunity for current Columbia College students and residents to choose the specific room they want to live in for the 2012-2013 academic year. With the assistance of a Residence Life staff member, students will easily be able to sign a contract for on-campus housing. No need to fill out an application!
Contract Renewal Campaign begins Monday, February 27th, 2012 and goes through Friday, March 9th, 2012, in the Residence Life Office at 731 South Plymouth Court. Your sign-up date will depend on your housing status at that time. Please view the Contract Campaign Schedule for your designated dates.

If you are a current Columbia College on-campus resident or full-time student, you are able to participate in Contract Campaign. Keep in mind that all returning students must end the Spring 2012 semester with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to be eligible to live on campus.

Medical Insurance Policy Information
All residents are required to have medical insurance coverage during the contract period. You will need to provide proof of a current medical insurance policy (i.e. insurance card), so that we can have this information on file.

$500 Housing Prepayment
Students will need to provide a $500 prepayment or receipt of this payment when signing up for on-campus housing. This mandatory payment is applied to your first semesters’ housing costs, and cannot be waived.
We highly encourage students to make the housing prepayment PRIOR to coming into the Residence Life office, as this will significantly speed up the Contract Campaign process.

• Housing prepayments can be made online at www.colum.edu/housingprepayment. This payment system accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards, as well as electronic checks. Please be sure to bring a copy of your payment confirmation when you are signing up for on-campus housing.
• Cash and money orders housing prepayments can be made at the Cashier Desk at 600 S. Michigan, 3rd floor. Please be sure to bring the receipt of this payment.

DO NOT USE CCCPAY TO MAKE THIS PREPAYMENT.

Your sign-up date will depend on your housing status at that time. Please view the Contract Campaign Schedule for your designated dates. There will be hundreds of students looking to sign a contract for housing – all of which our staff must speak to individually, so be prepared to wait. We highly encourage students to make the Housing Prepayment PRIOR to coming into the Residence Life office, as this will significantly speed up the process.

If you signed a housing contract during Contract Campaign and have changed your mind, you must notify Residence Life at residencelife@colum.edu no later than June 1st 2012 to receive a refund on your $500 prepayment.
If your Columbia College student account has a balance, your $500 will be applied towards this balance. If your student account does NOT have a balance, Student Financial Services will issue your refund. Please note that credit card payments are credited back to the credit card.

If you decide to cancel your contract AFTER the June 1st deadline, you must submit a formal written request to residencelife@colum.edu. You may be released from any further financial obligations of your housing contract, but you will NOT receive a refund on your $500 prepayment.

There are 2 types of housing contracts students can sign: Academic & Annual.

Academic Contracts are available throughout all of our residence halls. This option allows students to live on campus for the Fall and Spring 2012-2013 academic year.
**Academic Contract dates are September 1st, 2012 through May 19th, 2013.

Annual Contracts are offered at The University Center. This option gives students the opportunity to live on campus for the 2012 summer and for the Fall and Spring terms of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Columbia's premier residence center, Plymouth Court, houses the main offices of Residence Life and approximately 350 Columbia College Chicago students. (see more)

The University Center
Since the Fall of 2004, the University Center (UC) has created a home away from home for approximately 1,700 college students from Columbia College Chicago and nearby DePaul & Roosevelt Universities. (see more)

The Dwight
Columbia’s newest addition to on-campus housing! This building was originally built in 1911 as the headquarters of the Dwight Brothers Paper Company. The Dwight has been fully renovated, but still stays true to its heritage as a place of aesthetics and creativity. (see more)

Located in the heart of Chicago's South Loop, 2 East 8th offers comfortable & afordable apartment style living and is just a few blocks away from Columbia College. (see more)

Roommate Requests can be accommodated, but the process will vary depending on each persons housing and/or student status.

• If you CURRENTLY live in one of our Residence Halls and you would like to stay in that SAME EXACT ROOM, you would be participating in Same Room Sign-Up during Contract Campaign. If you have a friend that currently attends Columbia College, and would like to room with you for 2012-2013, that person would need to come in during the Open-To-All segment of Contract Campaign. Please be aware, the availability of the space may change during the first week of Contract Campaign, as that space will still be an available option for other inquiring students.
• If you and a friend currently attend Columbia College and you both would like to find on-campus housing with each other, you would need to come in during the Open-To-All segment of Contract Campaign. We recommend that you both come into our office at the same time, to ensure that you both sign up for the same space. If your schedules do not permit this, be sure to let your friend know exactly which space you signed up for, so he/she can inquire about it when they come into our office. Please be aware, the availability of the space may change, as that space will still be an available option for other inquiring students.
• If you want to live with a friend that does not currently attend Columbia College, but plans to live on campus for 2012-2013, you would need to request this person when signing your housing contract. Your friend would also need to request you on their housing application. Please know that we do try to accommodate these requests, but they are not always successful. This is due to the fact that housing assignments for new students are based on availability AND when the student submitted their housing application.

If you do not have a Roommate Request, you will eventually receive a Roommate Assignment.

Housing costs vary according to building, type of room, occupancy and location within the building. Even within a single building, there are variations in cost. At this time, the specific prices per room are not yet available. Please check back later for updates.

Students who choose to live in Traditional-Style Semi-Suites (available only in the University Center) are provided with a MANDATORY meal plan, as these units do not include kitchens. The meal plan offers 15 meals per week during the Fall and Spring semesters. It also includes $660 in "flex" dollars to spend at the student’s discretion within the dining facility during the regular academic year. The cost of the meal plan is included in the price of the room.

Students who choose to live in apartment style housing can sign up for an optional, supplementary 150-Meal Plan. The plan costs approximately $1686, with 150 meals for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and $280 in "flex" dollars to spend at the student’s discretion within the dining facility. Please understand that this plan is strictly supplementary, as it allows an average of five meals per week. Several hundred plans are available for purchase each year and are made available on a first-come first-served basis until all are sold.
**PLEASE NOTE: If you decide you no longer want the 150-Meal Plan, you will need to send a cancelation request to residencelife@colum.edu. Refunds are available ONLY if the request is made PRIOR to the first week of classes, which begin Tuesday, September 4th, 2012. Refunds on any used/unused portions of the 150-Meal Plan after this date are not available.

In general, payment, either full or partial, is due on the first day of class each semester. If your anticipated financial aid covers the total amount of housing, tuition and fees due, you do not need to sign up for a payment plan. If your anticipated financial aid covers only a partial amount of your total due, you may sign up for a payment plan for the remaining amount due. If you do not sign up for a payment plan for the remaining amount due, you must make all the necessary financial arrangements to ensure that the remaining amount is paid to the College. Inquiries regarding the relationship between housing costs and student's financial aid package can be answered only by Student Financial Services.

Monday, February 27th – Wednesday, February 29th, 9:00am – 5:00pm
If you CURRENTLY live in one of our Residence Halls and you would like to stay in that SAME EXACT ROOM for 2012-2013, you would need to come into the Residence Life Office during Same Room Sign-Up. Dates/times are listed above.
Any room not claimed by its current resident during this time frame will be an available option for other students, starting Thursday March 1st, 2012.
Please be aware that availability may be different for next year, and your current space may not be an option. If you have received this type of notification in your Loop email account, please view the information for Displaced Residents.

Thursday, March 1st and Friday, March 2nd, 9:00am – 5:00pm
If you received a notification (via your Loop Email account) informing you that your current room is no longer an option for the 2012-2013 academic year, you will need to come into the Residence Life Office during the Displaced Residents portion of Contract Campaign to sign a contract for on-campus housing. Any room not claimed by current residents is up for grabs.

Monday, March 5th – Friday, March 9th, 9:00am – 5:00pm
During this time period, Contract Campaign is open to ALL current residents and ALL currently enrolled full-time Columbia College students. For example, if you are attending Columbia but currently do not live on campus, you will still be eligible to participate in this portion of Contract Campaign. Current residents may also stop in during this week to sign a contract for on-campus housing, if they had not done so already. As always, buildings and room styles are based on availability.

Roommate Assignments will be sent via email, starting the begining of July.
If a current student has signed up to be in your space and you really prefer not to room with them, please come into the Residence Life Office and we can try to find you a different space. We cannot force that individual to move out of your space.
