Mission Statement
It is the mission of the ASL-English Interpretation Department to provide students with quality education in American Sign Language/English interpreting and transliterating. The faculty is committed to educating students who will shape the public's perception of issues and events relevant to the Deaf and Hard of hearing community, recognizing that the Deaf and Hard of hearing community is a unique cultural and linguistic minority group. The department strives to educate students who will serve as leaders in the field of interpreting, role models within the interpreting community and advocates within the Deaf and Hard of hearing community. The department is committed to promoting and supporting cultural and ethnic diversity among its student population and to preparing students to serve as interpreters in underserved factions of the Deaf and Hard of hearing community. It is our intent to promote life long learning and instill in our students the value of professional development within the field of interpreting.
