Awards + Recognition
FACULTY
Fine Art part-time faculty Michael K. Paxton has been awarded a 2009 Artist Fellowship Award for $7,000 in the Visual Arts by the Illinois Arts Council.
STUDENTS
Jaclyn Capozzoli and Rachal Duggan, both Art + Design students, are recipients of the 2009 Weisman Award.
BFA in Fine Arts candidates Emanuel Aguilar, Vincent Finazzo and Eric Siegel collaborated to create the sculpture "Phoenix," exhibited at the Thompson Center for two weeks last January.
The collaboration developed when students in Larry Minsky's Ad Agency course (Marketing Communications), proposed the creation of a sculpture out of unused ashtrays.
The piece was unveiled January 6 in a ceremony commemorating the one-year anniversary of Smoke-Free Illinois. The event received significant media coverage, being reported on in The Chicago Tribune, TimeOut Chicago, and on local news broadcasts.
See video of ABC Chicago News 7 coverage, with images of the piece, the artists, and an interview with Emanuel Aguilar.
