Dr. Carol Lloyd Rozansky
New Chair of the Education Department
The
School of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased and honored to welcome Dr. Carol
Lloyd Rozansky as the new Chair of the Education Department. Dr. Rozansky is a
renowned educator and widely published scholar with extensive experience as a
faculty member. She comes to us from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where
she was Professor of Education.
Dr. Rozansky brings extensive professional experience, a clear vision for the Education Department, a track record of accomplishment, work in education-related outreach, and a personal history with the College—her daughter is a graduate of the photography program.
Dr. Rozansky’s areas of expertise include PreK-12 literacy education (including learning to read and write, content-area literacy, and assessment), learning theory, urban education, culturally relevant pedagogy, and critical pedagogy. She is also a former reading specialist and science teacher. Her knowledge and experience in science, mathematics, and literacy have led her to participate in collaborations with University and urban school colleagues.
Additionally, Dr. Rozansky also has experience in theatre. She is a founding member and long-term officer of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed (PTO), an organization based on the liberatory work of Paulo Freire and Augusto Boal. Further, she has worked extensively as a volunteer with a community group whose purpose is to improve the academic achievement and life opportunities of African American students.
