School of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Who We Are:

The liberal arts and sciences are integral to the well-rounded education you expect from Columbia College Chicago. LAS subjects and programs inspire, provide contexts, literacies, histories; teach the impact of scientific reasoning on our lives—and enhance your ability to think critically and to communicate analytical perspectives.

In fact, a major, minor, or firm grounding in the liberal arts will make you even more marketable than you might be otherwise. The liberal arts and sciences connect studies to the real world with a depth and breadth that gives you (in the words of Mark Van Doren) the ability to know, the ability to do, and ability to know who you are.

The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers:

  • Majors and concentrations in several degree programs leading to Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Master of Fine Arts degrees.
  • Teacher certification programs in both early childhood education and primary and secondary education, including bilingual and art education programs.
  • Minors and certificates in many programs, as well as in several interdisciplinary programs.
  • Faculty who are nationally known scholars and award-winning teachers.
  • Study abroad programs and off-campus practicum opportunities.
  • Access to cutting edge technology in smart classrooms and American Sign Language labs.
