Internships

Internships are an invaluable part of the educational experience and entrance into the television industry. Working as editors, members of a production crew, assistants to producers, directors and writers, and in many other capacities, you experience first hand what your particular area of concentration has to offer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To qualify for an internship students must be at least a junior with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

HOW TO APPLY:
Ways to obtain an internship:

  • You take the initiative and find a place where you’d like to intern.  Make the initial inquiry and find the proper person to contact. When the internship is offered, meet with our Internship Coordinator to process the paperwork for proper college credit.
  • OR, visit our Internship Coordinator to get listings of opportunities with organizations where we already have a relationship. We can match your experiences and interests with an internship that suits you.

Trio Video
Production

 

 

Covering many large venue events (sporting, corporate, commercial) Trio offers a chance to participate in all parts of remote television production, including light maintenance of equipment.


Towers Productions
Development Intern

 

 

Towers main emphasis is documentary programming, but they are always looking for new and exciting projects. Development interns work closely with Story Development department to submit ideas for series already in production (American Justice, Investigative Reports and Biography).


Ebert & Roeper
Assistant

 

 

Ebert and Roeper is a nationally syndicated weekly film-review program. Intern will assist staff during studio production; research specific films and film history as assigned; screen film-clips, preview cassettes and synopsize for talent; prepare program transcriptions for studio publicists; log and dub videocassettes; maintain files and tape library; answer phones as needed.


Big Shoulders Digital Video
Production

 

 

The intern program is designed to give students on the job experience in a professional production and postproduction environment. Each day, teamed with a staff member, interns are walked through daily operations of a production/post production facility.


CLTV (Chicagoland's Television)
Creative Services Department

 

 

Intern will assist in the editing, writing and producing of on-air promotions and other program material. Position also includes logging tapes, making dubs and finding source materials, plus other duties assigned.


Kartemquin Films
Office Assistant

 

 

A production/post production house known for its documentaries on community awareness and social issues (Hoop Dreams, Stevie). Intern will help with general office duties (dubs, answering phones). The position offers an opportunity for students seeking experience, not only in the technical and artistic sides of film and video, but in film's ability to promote community awareness.


WCIU   Weigel Broadcasting Co. offers an internship program at its flagship television station WCIU-TV, Channel 26, The U! They are seeking individuals with a strong work ethic combined with creativity and a keen interest in the broadcast industry. Strong writing and organizational skills are required. Interns must possess a willingness to work as a part of a team in any capacity from administration work to creative brainstorming participation.

Judge Mathis   The Judge Mathis show is a court television show that is nationally syndicated by Telepictures Productions, a Time Warner Entertainment Company. Duties will vary according to daily necessities. All interns will be involved in the Audience Department and the Production Department. Answering audience calls, recording guest call-ins and assisting the Producers.
