Biography
Kathleen Butera has over 25 years experience in non-profit management, having worked with the Chicago, San Francisco and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras. She was Executive Director of Chicago’s Music of the Baroque and Development Officer for the Northlands School in Olivos, Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2002 she joined Sherwood Conservatory of Music as Development Director and was named Executive Director in September 2006. Sherwood merged with Columbia College in July 2007.
Ms. Butera has been consultant to the National Endowment for the Arts, Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, Columbus Chamber Orchestra (OH), Society for Art in Crafts (Pittsburgh) and Symphony of the Americas (Ft. Lauderdale). She is currently a panelist for the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs CityArts Program Review Panel and is a Board Member for Blair Thomas & Company Chamber Puppet Theater. Other volunteer work has been as panelist for the American Symphony Orchestra League, Illinois Arts Council and on the Board of Directors for Deborah’s Place Shelter for Women Who Are Homeless.
She holds both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education and has taught music in the public schools and at the college level.
