Biography

My research focuses on aesthetics, art writing, literary criticism, and poetry in nineteenth-century Britain. I am the author of The Rescue of Romanticism: Walter Pater and John Ruskin (Ohio University Press, 2001), which explores the legacy of Romanticism to Victorian art and thought, as well as numerous articles and book chapters on Pater and other nineteenth-century writers. I am currently editing Volume 6: Appreciations, and Studies and Reviews, 1890–1894, for The Collected Works of Walter Pater, to be published by Oxford University Press. Formerly, I served as Chairperson of the Department of English at both Ohio University and Columbia College Chicago. I have also worked as a film archivist for Martin Scorsese. I teach courses across the curriculum in both the English and Creative Writing majors, the Creative Writing MFA and CCC honors programs, and the LAS core.
