Biography

Jesse Seay is a sound artist and assistant professor at Columbia College Chicago. She holds an M.FA. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an M.A. in Media & Cultural Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. Her interest in field recordings led to the creation of the on-line archive, Favorite Chicago Sounds, in 2006. Jesse also spent severalyears on-air as a host and producer for Chicago Public Media’s Vocalo.org. Her sound sculpture has shown at the Hyde Park Art Center, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, the Chicago Children's Museum, and the University of Chicago.

Jesse joined the Department of Audio Arts & Acoustics in 2009. She teaches Sound Art Electronics Workshop, Masterclass in Sound Art, and Audio Production I.

Current interests include: sound’s relationship to human behavior in public space, Buddhist aesthetics, kinetic sculpture, electronic textiles, circuit bending.
