Mirella Shannon’s professional career has spanned three sectors: financial services executive management, public service, and education. Before joining Columbia College she was the Vice President of Institutional Operations for the New York City investment management firm Neuberger Berman, a senior executive for SEI Corporation, and the president of her own management consulting firm. She served from 2000 to 2002 as an Information Technology Peace Corps Volunteer in Belize, Central America and taught in the Computer Science Department at the University of Belize.
Her teaching interests focus on developing computational literacy programs for students outside the field of computer science in order to prepare them for the convergence of technology with their chosen careers. Her academic research deals with finding new and innovative ways to attract women and minorities to careers in computer science by developing new ideas on the use of technology. Mirella has been on the faculty of Columbia College since 2003 and is currently serving as the Associate Dean of the School of Media Arts.
