Dennis Luxion

Besides teaching keyboard classes and private students at Columbia College Chicago, Dennis Luxion is a free-lance jazz pianist and composer.
Mr. Luxion traces his foundation in jazz to his experience in the jazz
community at the University of Illinois in the early 1970¹s. Later moving to
Europe, he toured extensively with Chet Baker with whom he also made several studio and live recordings. He also played with Jon Eardley, Bill Frisell, Dusko Goykovich, Lee Konitz, Bob Mover, Sal Nistico, Claudio Roditi, Woody Shaw, Archie Shepp, Tony Scott, Toots Thielemans, Leon Thomas, James Woode,and the Brasilian music group Batida, among others. During this time, he taught at the Seminaire du Jazz of the Royal Conservatory of Liege, Belgium where he studied composition with Frederic Rzewski and Philippe Boesmans.

Since reestablishing residence in Chicago in 1985, Mr. Luxion has been
active as a performer, composer and educator. He has worked regularly with such local artists as Jackie Allen, Diane Delin, Von Freeman, Greg Fishman, and Eric Schneider as well as with such visiting musicians as Curtis Fuller, George Garzone, Sheila Jordan, and Ira Sullivan. His compositions are featured on Ennead (written for The Jeff Stitely Quartet on Premonition Records) and on Duality (Dennis Luxion and Diane Delin on Blujazz). He appears regularly at the Green Mill, Andy’s Jazz Club and Stetson’s.
