Mimi Rohlfing
Mimi joined the faculty at Columbia College Chicago in the fall of 2005 to teach private jazz voice, sightsinging and theory classes, and direct the vocal jazz ensemble 3CVJE. The very next semester, 3CVJE sang for President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia and Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. The following year, the ensemble was honored to sing with the Chicago jazz legend Von Freeman, and in 2008 they performed with the Grammy-winning New York Voices, David “Fathead” Newman, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Before coming to Chicago, Mimi enjoyed a musical career that reached into many styles and areas. She sang pop music in Cyprus, led her own jazz combo in Boston called the Minerva Quartet, sang classical music in the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and in the Boston suburbs she taught public school music and directed children’s theater.
Performing has put her on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and London’s Royal Albert Hall, and in concerts in Germany, England, Canada, Cyprus, Scotland, Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, and South Africa. She has sung with Darmon Meader of New York Voices, Janis Seigel and Manhattan Transfer, Martina McBride, Sarah McLaughlin, and Bobby McFerrin, as well as the Boston Symphony, Pops, and Esplanade Orchestras. She appears on Shawna Carol’s Sacred Pleasure and Jon Macy’s Actuality in Process.
She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Berklee College of Music, and a Master of Music degree from Western Michigan University.
