MFA Lab

Columbia College Chicago's MFA Music Composition for the Screen program has its own lab. It's the technologically sophisticated beating heart of all classroom activity, the place where most program teaching and guest lecturing is held and where students work on program and independent projects.

With its innovative walk-through design, teachers have easy access to all students. Any student's audio and video can be presented at a moment's notice on a pair of 50-inch HD flat-panel monitors and KRK Rokit8 powered monitors (with, of course, a paired subwoofer for that cinematic low end).

Student stations consist of:
  • Apple Intel iMac 24" Dual Core 2 x 2.66GHz
  • Second Apple 20" Cinema Display
  • M-Audio semiweighted Axiom-49 controller
  • Logic Studio 8
  • Pro Tools 8
  • Final Cut Express
  • Sibelius 5/6
  • Finale 2008
  • Garritan Personal Orchestra 2
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • PDFtoMusic Pro
  • Toast 8 Titanium
  • iMovie, iDVD, iTunes

The program also runs its own XServe. Students log into portable accounts, allowing both automatic data backup and easy computer switching.
