Nancy Tom Endowment Fund for Visiting Faculty

In fall 2007, the Center for Asian Arts & Media at Columbia College Chicago launches an initiative that in many ways serves as a culmination of its first ten years, and of the vision of its founder and executive director Nancy Tom. Over the past years, the Center for Asian Arts & Media has grown from a miniscule and limited operation to a major contender and advocate on behalf of the important contributions of Asians and Asian Americans. At the heart of our work is a belief in the dignity and indefatigable power of the arts, and an observation that the Asian experience and contribution to the arts have until now often been unrecognized and understated.

The Nancy Tom Endowment for Visiting Faculty, with a goal of $100,000, will ensure the presence and contributions of Asian and Asian American artists, entertainers, writers and media illuminaries each year on campus at Columbia College Chicago. These accomplished members of our culture will spend varying periods of time in classroom settings, at public events, and working one-on-one with students. Topics of lectures and discussions will vary, but emphasis will be placed on their careers and specific works in a spirit on combining inspiration from their personal stories with practical applications and realities within their industries.
