The Entrepreneurship Center for Music exists to promote and enhance the professional development of current and former music students at the University of Colorado College of Music through the exploration of creative and entrepreneurial activities associated with music and related disciplines. The Director is the chief administrative officer of the Center, accountable for its overall management, working in consultation with the Dean and in collaboration with the faculty. In addition to providing leadership, the Director will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and provide individual career counseling and mentoring. Bachelor's degree in music or business and either a Master's degree in music, arts administration, or related discipline, or comparable experience achieved through at least two years of professional experience at the college or university level. Other expectations include technology proficiency and the ability to represent the ECM and College of Music at a national level; strong interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, particularly with regard to articulating to internal and external constituencies a vision for the meaning and value of entrepreneurship in the arts. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position will be offered as tenure-earning (Assistant or Associate Professor rank), or non-tenure track (Instructor rank), depending on the candidate’s credentials, accomplishments, and potential for a sustained record of professional activities at the national level. The music department offers a wide variety of courses in ethnomusicology and western music (including American music). Courses range from introductory survey classes and writing-intensive freshman seminars on specific topics to upper-level lecture or seminar courses concerned with particular topics or geographical areas. Music is taught in the context of a liberal arts education, and many courses are cross listed with other departments and programs and attract students from all disciplines. The ideal candidate will have completed the Ph.D., have a record of teaching experience, and demonstrate the potential for significant scholarship in the profession. An experienced theory and aural skills teacher is sought to teach undergraduate theory and aural skills sequences and contribute to the jazz and contemporary performance programs; contribute significantly to UNCA's Integrative Liberal Studies (general education) program; other duties as assigned. Experience and strong commitment to teaching undergraduate theory and aural skills is expected; interdisciplinary teaching experience is preferred; knowledge of jazz theory/improvisation and familiarity with computer-assisted instruction in music theory and aural skills strongly preferred; piano performance skills preferred.
