New Black Music Repertory Ensemble
Founded in 1999, the Center's current performance organization is the New Black Music Repertory Ensemble, a large ensemble of up to eighty professional musicians. Its mission, which is as ambitious as it is unique, is to perform music of the black experience spanning all periods, provenances, genres, and styles, ranging from 15th-century motets to symphonies, concerti, Broadway and show music, jazz in all styles, and popular and vernacular musics of today. The varied talents and specializations of its musicians provide authentic performances in groupings of instrumentalists and singers ranging from solos and duets to string quartets, woodwind quintets, jazz and popular music ensembles of various sizes and instrumentations, and full symphonic orchestra.    

Ensemble Stop-Time
Project Stop-Time and its performance group, Ensemble Stop-Time, were designed to celebrate African-American popular musical traditions of the twentieth century, with a particular focus on Chicago musicians and musical culture.

Ensemble Kalinda Chicago
Eight Chicago musicians who performed folk and popular music from all regions of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean composed Ensemble Kalinda Chicago, the performance group of the Center's Project Kalinda.

Black Music Repertory Ensemble
The Black Music Repertory Ensemble was a conducted chamber ensemble of twelve instrumentalists and three singers. The majority of the Ensemble's repertoire came from a body of important literature from the written tradition that has been neglected, omitted from performance, and excluded from academic study.
