Librarian Janet Harper gave a presentation on Afro-Puerto Rican music as part of a campus event on the music of the Caribbean, gave a presentation on gospel music to a class in the Explore Chicago program at DePaul University in Chicago, and attended a one day workshop on Resource Description and Access (RDA) sponsored by Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI).
Executive Director Monica Hairston O’Connell has been elected chair of the Society for Ethnomusicology Archiving Special Interest Group and has been appointed to the Society for American Music’s Irving Lowens Article Award committee.
Archivist and Digital Librarian Laurie Lee Moses attended a Society for American Archivists seminar on electronic records best practices offered by Chicago Area Archivists, and several webinars on social media strategy and platforms, including Instagram and Pinterest, as used in libraries and archives. Moses also continued her exploration of new access tools, taking a day-long tutorial on neo4j, a graph database application, and has enrolled in an online course from CalArts titled “Introduction to Programming for Musicians and Digital Artists,”
Manager of Web Applications Peter Shultz is finishing his dissertation at the University of Chicago while adjusting to life in Minnesota.
