Through the Community Schools initiative, CCAP is shaping the schools of tomorrow through its commitment to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. By uniting the most important influences in children's lives - school, family and community - this initiative fully supports their learning and development.

CCAP’s Community Schools Initiative offers a full-service approach to education by addressing the whole child and eliminating barriers to learning. The program provides three main areas of support:
Expanded learning programming includes arts-based learning; tutoring and academic enrichment; sports, health and fitness; cultural enrichment; and parental involvement activities. CCAP also brings in partners to provide health and social services as needed.
The cornerstone of the Community Schools Initiative is its ability to build connections between Columbia College Chicago and partner schools. By creating reciprocal partnerships between college, community and schools, CCAP brings the creative experience of arts and engaged learning to all partners. CCAP works with Chicago Public Schools to serve over 1,000 students and 400 parents each year.
CCAP is recognized as a national leader in implementing the Community Schools model with an arts focus. In 2010, this model was one of 15 winners of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program award, given at the White House to recognize the nation’s top after school arts and humanities programs. The program has inspired young people to pursue their goals while strengthening their interesting in learning, helped parents gain confidence in supporting their children’s education, and allowed youth to reach for their dreams.
