Photoshop (5 Week Course)
In our Photoshop Workshop Series you will learn how to use many features of the industry-leading software for image manipulation, Adobe Photoshop CS4. This workshop series is for beginner users and will cover mostly the basics.
Week 1: Introduction
- Discuss the various uses of the application and the difference between pixel-based imaging and vector
- Navigating and understanding the tools and menus
- Begin using the Hue and Saturation tool and begin making selections with the Marquee Tool
- Understanding the Composition Window, Pixel Dimensions and DPI
Week 2: Making Selections
- Review the Hue and Saturation Tool
- Making more accurate selections
- Manipulating selections and adjusting the current selection
- Using the Refine Edge Tool
- Introduction to Layers and Opacity
- Understanding Levels
Week 3: Introduction to Layers
- Discuss the various composition sizes and their uses
- Working with Multiple Layers
- Moving, adding and deleting Layers
- Adding Layer Effects
- Adjusting the Blending Modes and Adjustment Layers
Week 4: Type and Basic Effects
- Review the Blending Modes and Layers
- Using the Text Tool
- Manipulating Text
- Adding additional fonts
- Font Effects
- Making Basic gif animations
Week 5: Masks
- Review the Type Tool
- Creating an alpha Channel
- Creating layers masks
- Exporting files with alpha information
- Importing Images with Alpha into other applications
By signing up for the Photoshop Workshop Series you are signing up for all 5 3-hour long workshops. Only participants who attend all 5 workshops will earn the CIT Certificate. Part-time faculty who complete all 5 workshops will also receive a stipend in the amount of $200.00. Full-time staff who also teach part-time in Columbia do not qualify for a stipend. If you have received a stipend and certificate for this course previously, you are not eligible to receive a stipend and certificate for this course again.
In order to receive a certificate or stipend, participants will have to pass an exam proving their understanding of the material. The project-based, hands-on exam will be administered by the instructor during the last hour of the last day of the course.
