Faculty Workshop Guidelines and Expectations

Guidelines and Expectations for cite Workshops

We're always seeking new ways to collaborate with our faculty colleagues and we welcome your ideas! These guidelines and expectations are designed to outline upfront the collaborative process that we think will lead to well-planned and exciting programs that will appeal to a wide range of faculty and staff at the College.

Workshop Agenda Template

Guidelines for workshop proposal: We're looking for

  • Teaching & learning topics that are focused, but that have cross-disciplinary appeal
  • Specific & concrete teaching ideas, strategies, or activities that participants could adapt for their own classes
  • A session that will model best practices in teaching & learning (learner centered, interactive, organized, adapted to the specific context and audience of a 2-hour faculty development program)

Expectations for workshop planning & delivery: If your workshop proposal is accepted, we will ask you to:


  • Meet and consult with cite staff to further develop and refine the workshop ideas and plans
  • Co-produce a program agenda that will be distributed to workshop participants


  • In the semester before the workshop is offered, work with cite staff to write/edit/approve titles and blurbs to be used in brochures, email announcements, Columbia Online, etc.
  • Promote the workshop in your department and among colleagues you know

Logistics: Work with Program Manager Maggie Ritter to

  • Confirm space reservation
  • Confirm any technology needs
  • Prepare copies of agendas, handouts, etc. OR contact Maggie to arrange to have them copied at least one week before the workshop

 Delivery: (may or may not be co-facilitated with cite staff)

  • Arrive 15-20 minutes before the start of the workshop session to set up  
  • Ask participants to sign in
  • Ensure that participants fill out feedback forms and that part-time faculty fill out voucher request forms. Collect all forms and return to Maggie
  • After workshop, help with clean up and equipment breakdown
