Critical Encounters Colloquium
How can I become a part of the Critical Encounters Colloquium?
The Critical Encounters Colloquium (CEC) is a teaching and learning colloquium that brings full- and part-time faculty together to discuss, develop and disseminate exercises, assignments and assessment rubrics for the critical encounters focus in the upcoming school year. The CEC will meet four times for at least two hours during the spring semester prior to the school year that will feature their particular Critical Encounters Focus.
Any full- or part-time faculty member at Columbia College is eligible for membership in the Critical Encounters Colloquium. Participants will be selected based upon interest in and/or experience with the specific Critical Encounters Focus. The Teaching and Learning Committee will be responsible to solicit interest, identify potential participants and select members.
Each CEC will have the freedom to organize and decide upon how they will spend their meeting time. However, they will need to produce pedagogical materials, resources, assignments, rubrics, etc. for the Critical Encounter's initiative by the end of the semester. These deliverables will become available to all faculty members at Columbia College through the online portfolio system now in development at the college.
In
addition, the Critical Encounters Colloquium will present some of their
pedagogical ideas to the faculty in a panel presentation and CTE Workshops in
the fall or spring semester. Specifics
of these responsibilities will be discussed and negotiated with the Teaching
and Learning Committee. The idea is that
with twelve participants, no one single participant would be asked to do more
than a couple of presentations.
