Get Involved

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN CRITICAL ENCOUNTERS?

There are a number of ways to get involved with Critical Encounters this year. The program has many events (EVENTS) planned that extend the walls of Columbia College to include community audiences.

Critical Encounters has been designed as a volunteer, collaborative venture that will connect people to topics based on their individual experiences.

Faculty members are encouraged to engage in the Poverty and Privilege focus in whatever capacity makes sense to their course (TEACHING) selection. They may attend Critical Encounters events alone, and/or with their students, to create art and illustrate their own activism in their art.

Students are invited to understand Critical Encounters as an opportunity to explore the college in an interdisciplinary way. They are encouraged to join the Student Subcommittee (DCOTTONE@COLUM.EDU) of the Critical Encounters Task Force or even work to organize and apply for a Mini-Grant (MINI-GRANT APPLICATION) so that they may run an event of their own.

The community-at-large is welcome to participate in events as well. The goal is that these members work closely with Columbia College in addressing the needs and concerns of the community and its social issues.

If you have particular questions or are interested in becoming involved in a more specific way, feel free to contact the co-chairs of the Task Force:
