Next Year
What will be the Critical Encounters Focus next Year?
In the first year, a social/societal/human “problem” was examined and explored. In this case, it began with the issue of HIV&AIDS.As a way of enlarging the conversation and ensuring that HIV&AIDS was carried through the next "issue of the year,” the Teaching and Learning Committee decided that it should extend its perspective through a complicating factor of the problem.
For the 2007-2008 school year, the Critical Encounters Focus is
Poverty & Privilege. Year Two will focus on artistic endeavors,
community engagement and the impact Critical Encounters has on
communities beyond the walls of Columbia College.
Finally, in the third year, the Teaching and Learning Committee plans
to continue the dialogue by focusing on positive solutions. The focus for 2008 - 2009 will thus be Human / Nature, which will enable the college community to revisit
the invigorating conversations from the previous two years while considering a range of complicating factors from Human Rights to climate change and sustainability.
