ETA Process
All current full-time and part-time faculty members from all Columbia departments and programs are eligible for consideration in 2010.
Please note that because the selection process includes classroom observations, finalists ordinarily should be teaching at least one course during Spring Semester 2010. Exceptions may be made in cases of extraordinary merit, where there is a pattern of evidence from observations by students and colleagues documenting excellent and innovative teaching.
Students are encouraged to nominate their best Columbia teacher, whether or not they are currently enrolled in one of that teacher’s classes.
Faculty members are encouraged to nominate their most respected and accomplished teaching colleagues.
Friday, February 19, 2010: Nominations are due.
Wednesday, February 23, 2010: Nominated faculty will be notified.
Friday, March 5, 2010: Application Portfolios are due from nominated faculty by 5 p.m. More on this below.
Friday, April 16, 2010: The Excellence in Teaching committee will select a group of finalists by this date and will schedule a classroom observation with each finalist during the weeks following spring break.
Monday, May 3, 2010: The full-time and part-time recipients of the 2009 Excellence in Teaching Award will be announced in the semester's final issue of the Columbia Chronicle, and awards will be given at Commencement Ceremonies.
Nominated faculty must submit an Application Portfolio either via interoffice mail or by dropping it off at the Center for Teaching Excellence on the 8th Fl., 600 S. Michigan Ave. by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2009. A submissions box will be available.

3. A copy of a relevant syllabus.
4. A copy of student evaluations from all the courses you taught in Fall 2009 (or the most recent semester in which you taught).
