Civic Engagement

   Civic Engagement 101
Facilitated by Dia Penning & Lott Hill, Director, CTE

What are the shared theoretical underpinnings that unite the varied forms of public scholarship? On the Columbia College Campus, Civic Engagement opportunities for students and faculty encompass community-based research, university-community partnerships, experiential learning, and service learning. What is our common language? How do we measure our success? Through dialogue and investigation, we will explore connections to civic engagement that exist in existing classes, enhancing your student learning outcomes and determine how to develop useful assessment rubrics.

Please see our Fall 2009 schedule for times.
Spaces are limited; please RSVP at cte@colum.edu.

        Service Learning Course Conversion
Facilitated by Dia Penning & Lott Hill, CTE

This series is designed for faculty members who think beyond the walls of their classrooms and who wish to develop new ways to engage students by connecting learning to the challenges of our communities.  In three sessions, we will build upon the principles and practices of civically engaged pedagogies to consider how the curriculum of a course may be transformed by Service-Learning.

The series will conclude with an opportunity to submit proposals for the Timothy J. Densmore Service-Learning Faculty Fellowships that will provide up to $3,000 support for faculty members to integrate Service-Learning into a pre-existing class.
