JUMP RHYTHM Jazz Project by William Frederking
JUMP RHYTHM Jazz Project
February 18, 19 & 20 * 8:00 p.m.20th Anniversary Season
The Emmy Award-winning JUMP RHYTHM Jazz Project is known nationally and abroad for its explosively, rhythm-driven storydances performed to the beat-driven sounds of jazz, hip-hop, and world music. The company will mark its 20th anniversary with premieres as well as revivals of JRJP classics. The latter includes artistic director Billy Siegenfeld’s god of dirt, a trans-national folk-dance set to the exuberant sounds of Serb-Croat composer Goran Bregovic. Siegenfeld will also premiere You Do Not Have To Be Good, about the reclaiming of emotion by the dancing body, and Why Gershwin?, a wry romance based on the music and words of the Gershwin brothers. To celebrate JRJP’s outreach programs, company member Heidi Malnar will premiere Sing, Sing, Sing, created on a crosssection of dancers representing Chicagoland’s teen communities.
