COLUMBIA COLLEGE

FACULTY ORGANIZATION (CCFO)

Report to the College Council

December 7th, 2007

Since the last College Council meeting, CCFO had a meeting of the Academic Freedom Committee on November 6th.  This meeting was well attended and provided an avenue for discussion of this important topic with the faculty (full and part time) and staff who were in attendance.  On November 9th, the Faculty Liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee made a presentation to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees where the results of the CCFO survey were discussed as well as the Institutional Performance Survey (IPS) and the evaluation of senior administration at the college.  A meeting was held on November 13th between the CCFO President and the Provost/Senior VP where the correct composition of ERC and Faculty Handbook Committee matters were discussed.  In addition, a very successful tenure workshop for year one faculty [done in collaboration with the CTE] was conducted by Hope Daniels on November 29th

CCFO officers will meet with the President and Provost/Senior VP on January 18thto discuss a variety of issues.

Our priorities for the remainder of this academic year include: developing a system for open evaluation of senior administration; continuing to update the Faculty Handbook; full implementation of the Teaching Load Adjustment (TLA); rank/promotion and tenure review; further improving health care and retirement benefits; evaluation of teaching; advocating for faculty base salary raises higher than 3% and having the administration continue to address salary compression.
