The Artist in a Climate of Change is a course in contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Feminism, racism, and ecology are examined as aesthetic theories and issues in relation to the situation and methods employed by artists today. The course examines the construction of the meta-narratives that inform the teaching of various artistic disciplines. Teacher candidates are encouraged to consider the cultural biases inherent in various formulations, and to explore the ways in which a multicultural perspective enhances the possibilities for making art in our time. Candidates examine the modernist underpinnings of their arts education and then consider the ways in which emerging post-modernist theories and sensibilities affect art practice
Course descriptions are stored in OASIS and are maintained by the Associate Dean for each School.
