Tribute Honors Retirement of Director Howard Sandroff at The University of Chicago

Audio Arts and Acoustics Professor of Sound Art and Interim Director of Music Technology Howard Sandroff was paid  tribute with electronic and electroacoustic works composed by his former students on April 25, 2016 at the University of Chicago. The tribute celebrated Sandroff’s work as a composer, sound artist, and Senior Lecturer in Music and Director of the Computer Music Studio for more than three decades at the University of Chicago. His retirement on January 1, 2016 came after 33 years of service in which he worked with prominent composers and musicians, and acclaim for his Chant de femme composition.
 
Sandroff’s music has been recognized by Fanfare Magazine, The Musical Times, The New York Times, American Record Guide, The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times for his live performances and electronic combinations. His acoustic works have been recognized worldwide with high-profile performances by the Chicago Pro Musica, the Ultima Festival in Oslo (1999), Berlin Academy of Arts (2004), New York City New Music Ensemble (2009), the Sonic Peripheries Festival (2010) in Berlin, Germany, and the Musica Acoustica Festival in Beijing 2014.
