Dean Ozuzu Wins 2017-18 Creation and Development Fund from the National Performance Network

Fine and Performing Arts Dean and Dance Professor Onye Ozuzu is a recipient of a 2017-18 National Performance Network Creation and Development Fund for her durational performance installation titled “Project Tool.” The project is commissioned by Links Hall in Chicago and Dancing Grounds in New Orleans.

With “Project Tool,” Ozuzu is collaborating with designer Steve Silber to build a collection of sprung wood dance floors—a modular dance “object” that can be arranged and configured to transform many different types of spaces. “This project,” according to Ozuzu, “stems from my fascination with the inter-relationships between body, task, and tool.”

The National Performance Network awarded 20 recipients a total of $50,000 to support development of works across disciplines, geographies, and cultures. Ozuzu will use the funds to support an upcoming installation at the Chicago Cultural Center and a subsequent trip to perform in New Orleans. The project also received a 3Arts Project Award.
