Columbia College Chicago Announces 2021-22 Art Now! Lecture Series
Columbia’s Art and Art History Department will be kicking off the 2021-22 Art Now! Lecture Series on September 22 and will run through April 6, 2022. The series has been taking place at Columbia since the fall of 2018.
The lecture series, which is developed and funded by Columbia’s Art and Art History Department, brings artists, curators, researchers, and practitioners to Columbia to give students exposure to the rich range of perspectives, practices, and professional pathways possible for the contemporary creative.
“As I organized this year’s speakers with my colleague, Mel Potter, we continued our department's commitment to diversity and social justice, and sought makers in adjacent and underrepresented (art) worlds,” says Joan Giroux, Professor and Associate Chair in Columbia’s Art and Art History Department. “This year’s line-up includes practitioners and scholars engaging environmental justice, disability studies, Blackness, resistance and power, institutional critique, and transqueer subjectivity in multiple forms and practices. We’re thrilled to bring these exciting makers and thinkers to Columbia College in the next months.”
Lectures will be taking place online on the following Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Central time:

Lectures have been remote since Fall 2020. “Taking advantage of this opportunity this fall, we have one lecture being delivered by an artist team from Scotland,” says Giroux. “We hope to be able to continue with some of the opportunities that remote possibilities have opened up in the future.”
