Jim Mitchem is a 1985 graduate of Columbia College (B.A., Broadcast Communications). He was hired as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Radio Department in 1991 and promoted to Full-Time Faculty in 1992 (tenured in 1997), where he has served for close to 20-years. Jim has 23-years of On-Air & Managerial Broadcast Radio experience (in 3 different markets, including Chicago).
During his time here at Columbia, Jim has served twice on the College Council as the Radio Department Representative. In addition, he has served on the All-College Curriculum Committee, the initial SMA Dean Search Committee, the SMA Retreat Committee and the initial Residence Life Disciplinary Committee. He continues to serve on all radio department standing committees (Curriculum, Assessment, Budget, Tenure, and Senior Awards).
Jim is a member in good standing of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).
