Science and Mathematics
Pan Papacosta has been at Columbia since1987 and Physics Coordinator since 1995. He is Professor of Physics and an elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics of Great Britain. He is author of a book about the origins of modern science and articles on Einstein, space science, physics education, and the integration of science with Humanities and Arts.
Pan has been a member of AAUP since 1985 and he has served as President of The Florida Academy of Sciences (1986-87), the Chicago Association of Physics Teachers (1993-94) and AAUP-IL (2002-05). As President of AAUP-IL he presented workshops and published essays on Shared Governance, Academic Freedom, Due Process and the importance of Tenure.
Pan has also served as Vice President of CCFO, on the College Curriculum Committee, All College Tenure Committee, Academic Affairs, ERC, Liaison to the Board, Strategic Planning. He currently serves on the Faculty Advisory Council to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), as Road Scholar (Speakers’ Bureau) of the Illinois Humanities Council, on the Editorial Board of a science education journal (IJ-SoTL) and on the Executive Council of AGLS (Association for General and Liberal Studies).
