Group piano is an ideal way to try out the piano and build the foundation for continued individual study in piano or other instruments. Students will acquire a familiarity with the keyboard, learn beginning music reading skills, and play simple melodies. All group piano classes are taught in Sherwood’s state-of-the-art keyboard lab. There are two levels of group piano meant to be taken sequentially: Introductory Piano and Continuing Piano.
Piano Classes (ages 6-8):
Introductory students will learn basic concepts and techniques on the instrument including music reading skills and simple one hand melodies.
Piano Classes (ages 9-12):
Introductory students will learn basic concepts and techniques on the instrument including music reading skills, simple two hand melodies, scales, and arpeggios.

Continuing participants will begin working on two hand pieces as well as further developing music theory and technical skills.
Piano Classes (ages 9-12):
Continuing participants will progress to learning 3-note chord voicings and extend their range on the instrument.

Learn chords, strumming patterns, and melodic lines as well as how to play with others in a fun, relaxed setting. There are two levels of group guitar meant to be taken sequentially: Introductory Guitar and Continuing Guitar.
Guitar Classes (ages 6-8):
Introductory participants will learn basic concepts and techniques on the instrument including how to read and play melodies and chords on the first three strings.
Guitar Classes (ages 9-12):
Introductory participants will learn all of the notes and chords in the first position, as well as how to play in a duet setting.

Continuing students will learn all notes in the first position as well as how to play at least one solo piece.
Guitar Classes (ages 9-12):
Continuing students will progress to second position, play solo pieces in two voices, and expanding their theory knowledge to include new keys.

Learn proper singing technique from a professional singer! This is a great class for children who love to sing and want to train their voice in a fun and supportive environment. We’ll cover sound production, breathing, diction, interpretation and musicianship.
There are two sections of ‘Sing Out!’ for children, one for ages 6 – 8, and one for ages 9 – 12.
