Piano Fest

Saturday, April 9, 2016

Piano Fest celebrates Sherwood’s rich history of piano instruction. It is an opportunity for piano students ages 5 and above to meet other pianists, perform publicly and be evaluated without the stress and pressure of a competition.

Students perform two contrasting pieces before an expert pianist and receive a certificate of accomplishment along with a written evaluation of their performances. Students will perform in small groups (usually three or four students) for the judge in 30-minute time slots. Students of similar age and level will be grouped together.

Piano Fest will take place in the Recital Hall and selected teaching studios at Sherwood, The Community Music School at Columbia College Chicago, 1312 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago.

Saturday, April 9, 2016. The application deadline is March 5, 2016. No extensions to the deadline will be made.

Repertoire Requirements
Participants must perform two contrasting pieces, not to exceed ten minutes combined.  Movements from a multi-movement work (such as a sonata) should be counted as separate selections.  At least one of the works performed must be memorized. Students can perform either as soloists or duets. Movements from piano concertos are considered solo piano literature (pianists must provide their own accompanists).

Solo Participant: $28
Duet: $35 per duet team

How To Register -

Please note, teachers are no longer responsible for registering their students. Participants are required to register through our Online Registration Center.

1. Pay the application fee. Payment must be made online through our secure Online Registration Center (select the activity listed as 'Piano Fest' and then choose either 'Solo Participant' or 'Duet'). Registration by phone or in person at Sherwood will NOT BE ACCEPTED.

2. After the application deadline has passed, you will receive an email from us requesting additional information about the participant's pieces. It is REQUIRED that this information be provided to us by March 13, 2016. If we do not receive the information from you, the student will not be able to participate in the event.

* Special Note Regarding Duet Registration: When registering a duet for Piano Fest, please register and pay for just one student. When we send the emailed survey out after the close of registration, we will request the names of both duet members at that time.
