Sherwood’s annual Scholarship Competition is an opportunity for current Sherwood students to participate in a rewarding performance experience. Students will have the opportunity to perform for two guest judges and compete for a scholarship award for private instruction in the 2016-2017 school year.

Who is Eligible?
Sherwood’s Scholarship Competition is open to current Sherwood students age 18 or under (as of Sept. 1, 2016) in the following divisions:
• JUNIOR - up through current 6th grade students
• SENIOR – current 7th grade students and up
Auditions will be held in the late afternoon and early evenings on the dates listed at the top of this page. An audition time will be assigned no later than two weeks before the audition date and communicated via email. Audition times are final and cannot be changed for any reason. Audition slots will be limited to seven minutes for Junior division, and ten minutes for the Senior division. Those competing in the Senior division are required to perform two contrasting pieces. (This is optional for those in the Junior division.)
There are no repertoire guidelines, however students are required to provide two (2) copies of her/his repertoire for the judges. Please bring copies with you, Sherwood will not make copies for you. Repertoire memorization is suggested, but not required. Preliminary performances are not open to the public, but parents/close family of participants may sit in on their own child’s audition.
Four to eight finalists will be chosen, at least two and up to four from each of the two divisions. All finalists are required to participate in the Honors Recital on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016, family and friends are encouraged to attend. Winners in each division will be determined by two guest judges and will be announced at the end of the Honors Recital. In addition, there will be an ‘Audience Prize’ that the audience selects via voting the night of the concert. The winner of the Audience Prize will receive an Apple iPad.
Students are required to secure their own accompanist if needed, Sherwood will not provide an accompanist for you. All scheduling of rehearsals, communication, and payment for accompanists must be handled directly between the participant and the accompanist, not through Sherwood. If you need to find an accompanist, we will provide you with a list of suggested accompanists.
Sherwood Scholarship Information
Awards will be issued as tuition reductions during the fall & spring terms of the 2016-2017 academic year, not as direct cash awards; please see below for specific award information. All awards will be made at the discretion of judges, and must be used for individual lesson instruction at Sherwood Community Music School. Scholarship awards are not given for instruction during the summer term.
• 1st Place winner: 100% tuition reduction.
• 2nd Place winner: 50% tuition reduction.
• Honorable Mention: 25% tuition reduction.
A 1st place winner and a 2nd place winner will be awarded in each of the two divisions. Additionally, up to 2 honorable mentions may be awarded in each of the two divisions at the judges discretion.
Notification of Competition Results
Results of the division finalists will be posted on Sherwood's website by the end of the day, Friday, May 20. Phone calls or emails will not be sent to individual participants with award notifications, participants are expected to check the website for results. First and second place winners, as well as honorable mention awards, will be announced at the Honors Recital on Thursday, June 2nd at 7:00 pm.
