How To Register for the Scholarship Competition
1. Pay the $15 application fee. Payment may be made online through our secure Online Registration Center (select the activity listed as 'Scholarship Competition Fee'), by phone at (312) 369-3100, or in person at Sherwood during regular business hours.

2. After the application deadline has passed, you will receive an email from us requesting additional information about the participant's competition pieces. It is REQUIRED that this information be provided to us in a timely manner. If we do not receive the information from you, the student will not be able to participate in the event.


Who is Eligible?  

Currently enrolled Sherwood students, who, on September 1, 2013, are 18 years old or younger are eligible. Students can compete in one of six separate categories, each with a junior, intermediate and advanced level of competition. (Please note that there are four levels for pianists only: primary, junior, intermediate and advanced.) Students may compete in more than one instrument and will be assigned a specific audition time on the day of the competition. The first three placements in the Advanced Level of the Strings, Winds and Brass, Piano, Percussion and Voice categories ONLY will compete in the Scholarship Finals on Saturday, May 11 at 2:00 PM.

Accompanists
Students are required to secure their own accompanist if needed, Sherwood will not provide an accompanist for you. All scheduling of rehearsals, communication, and payment for accompanists must be handled directly between the participant and the accompanist, not through Sherwood. If you need to find an accompanist, we will post a list of available accompanists on this page very soon.

 

Sherwood Scholarship Information
Awards will be issued as tuition reductions during the 2013-2014 academic year, not as direct cash awards; please see below for specific award information. All awards will be made at the discretion of judges, and must be used for individual lesson instruction at Sherwood Community Music School. Scholarship recipients will be required to perform at recitals and donor events up to four (4) times during the award period (September 2013 - June 2014), and must  be able to attend the Honors Recital and Senior Reception on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Sherwood.

Advanced Level

NOTE: The four advanced level students who move to the finals are assured scholarships. If, as a result of the preliminary round of the Scholarship Competition, they placed "first" in their respective categories, the Scholarship with Distinction will be reassigned to second or third place winners within the same categories.

Intermediate Level

Junior Level

Primary Level (Piano Only)

If, due to insufficient participation, scholarships are not awarded in any specific category or level, they will be reassigned to students in the category with the greatest number of participants.


Notification of Competition Results

Results of the competition will be posted on Sherwood's website by the end of the day, Tuesday, April 30. Phone calls or emails will NOT be sent to individual participants with award notifications, participants are expected to check the website for results.
