Emmy Bean

Early Childhood

Emmy Bean received an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago and a B.A. from Vassar College, with a concentration in Music and Culture. Originally hailing from New York City, she is active as a singer, actor and theater artist in the Chicago area. She writes songs and performs with Chris Schoen and T-Roy Martin in the lit-folk trio 80 Foots Per Minute. As a theater artist, she performs frequently with local companies such as Theater Oobleck, the Neo-Futurists, Curious Theater Branch, Upended Productions, and Erica Mott Productions. Since 2008, she has worked as an Associate Curator for the Great Small Works International Toy Theater Festival in New York City.

As a registered Music Together teacher, Emmy enjoys the unique communities of music-making that are formed in mixed-age classes, and is most enthusiastic about working with young children and families. Her teaching works in the spirit of play as a primary mode of learning and connection, and she builds on educational practices from theater and performance to support music learning for young children and their families.
