Carlos Cumpián is from San Antonio, Texas, but is firmly a Chicagoan. His cultural involvement started with support of the United Farm Worker Union boycotts as an actor in Chicano teatro and as a poet. Since the 1980s he has been lead coordinator of MARCH/Abrazo Press. He is a veteran high school English teacher as well as frequent community poetry and creative writing workshop instructor. His poetry books include Coyote Sun, Latino Rainbow, Armadillo Charm, and 14 Abriles: Poems. Cumpián's essays and poems are included in 25 anthologies, most recently Coffee House Press' bestseller Working Words: Punching the Clock and Kicking Out the Jams.
