Keep track of debt today and increase your ability to make money tomorrow

For many borrowers it’s easy to think of debt as something that needs to be taken care of in the future.  However, as you’ve seen in the examples illustrated in the Loan Borrowing 101 the decisions you make today about your debt management will affect you in the future.

Below are a few tips on how to keep track of your debt:
  1. Keep a record of all your loan information.  Your main Federal Student Loan online access will be at www.studentaid.gov. You’ll need your social security number and Federal PIN to access your information.
  2. Review your debt amounts each year with all your lenders and be aware of Repayment plan options.
  3. Get to know your Loan Servicer.  If you don’t know who your Federal Student Loan Servicer is contact the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243 TTY 1-800-730-8913) or log into www.studentaid.gov.
