Federal Work-Study Program

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program which provides part-time jobs to eligible undergraduate and graduate degree-seeking students while in school. FWS positions are located on-campus and off-campus, and many provide a much needed service to students and members within the local community. These positions are available during the fall, spring, and summer terms of the academic year.  Students may work up to 20 hours per week when school is in session (30 hours during the summer term) and may not earn more than their scheduled award.

In order to be considered for FWS, students must have:

Funds are limited. Students that are currently active in the FWS program will receive initial consideration when awarding these funds for the upcoming award year as long as the requirements have been met at the time of review. If remaining funds are available after the current FWS students have been awarded, new participants in the FWS program will be awarded FWS for the upcoming award year beginning June 1st on a first come, first serve basis as long as the requirements have been met at the time of review. Awarding will cease when funds are exhausted.

Once you have been awarded FWS, please contact the Office of Student Employment to locate a FWS position. If you do not secure a FWS position by Sept 30th, your award will be cancelled.

Summer FWS

Summer FWS is awarded to active FWS students who are planning to attend summer school for at least three credit hours or fall at least half-time and complete a summer aid application. FWS will be awarded as long as the student has remaining eligibility and there are remaining funds in the program for the award year. Summer applications should be completed early to be considered. Once the summer allotment has been reached, we will no longer award summer FWS.

Summer FWS positions can be obtained by contacting the Office of Student Employment for available positions beginning April 15th. Only students with a summer FWS award will be hired in a summer FWS position. Summer positions must be secured by the last day of the spring term or the award will be cancelled.

The initial award will allow students to work until June 30th, the end of the current award year. Recognizing that some summer positions extend past June 30th, students are allowed to utilize eligibility from the upcoming award year to remain working in these positions until the end of the summer term.

In order to continue working after June 30th, students must:

All of these steps must be completed by the last day of the spring term in order to be eligible to work past June 30th. No exceptions will be made.

Please make note that earnings past June 30th are coming out of the FWS award for the upcoming award year. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor earnings and adjust hours as needed. There will be no additional funding for overextending the awarded amount for the subsequent year.

FWS is not a grant. It is a federally funded compensation program. Students that do not work will not receive the funds awarded to them and the award will be cancelled after a period of inactivity.
