John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship

for continuing undergraduate and graduate students

The John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship was established to help defray the cost of tuition for talented, deserving writing students at the midpoint in their course of studies in the Department of Creative Writing.

Deadline to Apply: February 01, 2015

The John Schultz and Betty Shiflett Story Workshop Scholarship is open to:

  • Full- or part-time Fiction Writing undergraduate and graduate students
  • Undergraduates who are enrolled in or who have completed Prose Forms level of core Fiction Writing Department Story Workshop writing classes at Columbia
  • Graduate Students who have completed Graduate Fiction Writing I (the first of the core Fiction Writing Department Story workshop writing classes at Columbia) and are enrolled in or completed Graduate Fiction Writing II
  • Students with at least two remaining semesters of undergraduate coursework or at least one remaining semester of graduate coursework
  • International students may apply

Scholarship based on:
  • Submitted writing sample
  • NOTE: Interviews may be required

Scholarship amount:
  • Maximum of $2,900
