Columbia College has an extraordinary program in film and video that recognizes and supports the inseparability of technique and content and which emphasizes the conceptual and interpretative role of the writer-director. The Master of Fine Arts Degree in Film and Video provides professional education for a career as an independent filmmaker, in the film industry, or in academic life. In order to achieve these goals, we believe that creative self-discovery and the development of a personal voice are essential elements. We believe that the best films are the result of curiosity, human understanding, and the creative use of film and video technology. We also believe that the best films and videos are made in close collaboration with the creative members of a team and with an awareness of the social context in which they are produced. We are in the forefront of teaching emerging new technologies. Our program encompasses all of the traditional film technologies as well as the latest digital technologies.
