Columbia College Chicago's Theater Department
is run as a professional theater and provides rigorous, complete, one-on-one training for actors, directors, playwrights, designers and stage technicians. Through their training, they are equipped with the best and broadest skills necessary to develop their careers fully.

Students are immersed in a dynamic and challenging experience that prepares them for both the excitement of live performance and the challenges inherent in a professional life in the theater. Students study in the classroom and in the workshops and stages of the Department. Classes in acting technique and craft, singing, dance, and construction are available in the major concentrations.

The department also has BFA's in acting, directing and design. There are as many as 40 fully staged and workshop performances presented each semester, which allows students to learn by doing.

A subscription season of mainstage plays is attended by individual ticket buyers, special groups, high school students and the College community. The students learn to engage with the world as theater makers and collaborate with their fellow artists to produce engaging work for Chicago stages.
