At Columbia, our students can be creative as well as business-savvy. In the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, students build marketing campaigns for real clients; produce music, art, and fundraising events; run a record label; and manage talent. Their work can be something you experience, like a gallery opening or a concert. Or it can be something that helps build a business’s success, such as a licensing agreement or a social media strategy. Here we just scratch the surface of all the amazing work these students do.
Columbia’s Events and Gallery Management Practicum Classes
The college’s annual fundraising gala not only raises money for students, it is organized and driven by students, with Events Management and Gallery Management classes taking the lead. The Gallery Management students install the art exhibits while the Events Management students organize, produce, and execute the gala’s activations and exhibits.
Creative Agency Class
Students from Columbia played a pivotal role in an award-winning marketing campaign that rebranded the concession services at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The new branding, Beats, Bites, & Flights, was a result of the innovative work done by Columbia’s Creative Agency class and the airport’s marketing team. The campaign was recognized with a prestigious Excellence in Airport Marketing award from Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA).
AEMMP Records and Artist Management Practicum Classes
AEMMP Records is Columbia’s award-winning record label. AEMMP was founded in 1982 and is the country's longest standing, student-run, record label. Each year, students produce and promote an AEMMP Records music showcase at SXSW, bringing talent from the label to perform in front of new audiences.
Gallery Management Practicum Students
Students curated, designed, and produced this exhibit, which was featured in Columbia’s Student Center. The exhibition commemorated the 30th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's historic presidency of South Africa and his legacy.
