Anne Becker, EdD, is Associate Professor in the Education Department at Columbia College Chicago. She teaches technology courses related to K-12 classroom use, humanities for elementary education, and methods courses in preparation for K-12 certification in art education. She also directs the Art Education certification process by coordinating the placement of teacher candidates for preclinical and student teaching clinical experiences.Dr. Becker holds an EdD in Curriculum and Instruction from Aurora University (2003), an MA in Teaching with an emphasis on Sculpture from Northern Illinois University (1976), and a BS in Art Education from Northern Illinois University (1969). She has extensive experience in elementary and secondary art teaching in a suburban/urban community in the Chicago area. She has taught beginning through advanced levels of painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography. She was the Chairperson of the Art Department in District 129 for 16 years and the Chairperson of the Technology Department in that district for eight years.Dr. Becker’s research focuses on technology in schools, museum and art education, and art assessment in areas such as Internet uses in the classroom, response technology, social networking uses in the classroom, and museum education. She has delivered presentations and papers on topics related to her research at the following: the International Conference of Higher Learning, the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the National Art Education Association, the American Museum Association, and the Illinois Art Education Association. She has also participated in various exhibitions and shows, and her latest article appeared in the Fall 2011 issue of New Teacher Advocate.Dr. Becker is a member of Kappa Delta Pi professional society. She is a member of the Chicago Area Directors of Student Teaching and the National Art Education Association, and she is a member of the Executive Board of the State Student Chapter Advisor for the Illinois Art Education Association. She is the Columbia College Chicago Student Chapter Advisor of the NAEA/IAEA.Dr. Becker was awarded the 2010 Art Educator of the Year in Higher Education by the Illinois Art Education Association. She has served as the Chairperson for the Chicago Area Directors of Student Teaching from 2008-2010. Dr. Becker has presented workshops, participated in grants, and consulted with art educators in the Chicago Public Schools and other districts in the Chicago area. She is currently the Chairperson of the Cultural Commission, a mayoral appointed committee, and a member of the Arts Council in St. Charles, Illinois. Dr. Becker coordinates a technology partnership that is part of the preclinical experience for the Education Department’s Art Teacher candidates with museum educators from four museums in Chicago: the Adler Planetarium, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Notebaerte Nature Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium.
